Underlying most of the services I offer is an understanding of the business of tertiary education organisations. That in turn provides a good understanding of the requirements of these entities in terms of their organisational structure, information and communication needs, planning and processes, and performance measurement.
Business analysis involves asking questions in order to gain a better understanding of specific requirements. This action can itself provide insights for the client allowing them to initiate changes themselves. However taking the business analysis further can uncover additional benefits in terms of co-ordinating information flows and functions within an organisation, and with external entities.
In my experience those within business analysis experience and knowledge of an organisation can play an extremely useful role in acting as liaison between the organisation itself and third parties such as software developers.
